Camping & Lodging

Camping in Iowa can be a great experience! If you prefer to get a total outdoor experience during your visit on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, there are many options for both primitive and RV camping.

  • Boehner Park - City-owned park with primitive camping and pit toilet. Direct bicycle/foot path to the Wabash Trace on the North end of Malvern. Malvern Depot Trailhead - Primitive camping. Renovations are underway to make a restroom, shower, and bunkhouse at the old Depot. Park exercise equipment and off-street parking.

  • Trailhead Campground - Warm showers and flushing toilets built for double occupancy, complete with sitting area and electricity, uniquely constructed inside an old grain bin. Double RV electrical hookups are also on-site. This project was completed in Spring of 2014, largely thanks to a Fremont County Community Foundation Grant.

  • Cemetery Trailhead - Primitive camping with an open-sided shelter, renovations to the fire ring & camping grill recently installed by Pella Corporation. The City's nearby Waubonsie Park/Berglund Field has a season restroom.
  • City Parks - Contact the Shenandoah Parks Department at 712-246-3409 for more details on camping allowances. RV dump is available on Ferguson Road.

Ike's Place

  • Izaak Walton - Besides the large lodge with kitchen and restroom facilities that can be rented for any occasion, with the help of a Page County Community Foundation Grant we were able to install a restroom and shower in the basement of the facility for campers and trail users. The Izaak Walton grounds have bicycle/walking access to the Wabash Trace to the West and are right on Highway 2 for vehicle access. Lots of ground available for primitive camping, as well as one RV electrical hookup. For information on rental contact Amy Kelley at 712-246-5318.

  • City Park - Right off the trail, primitive camping, a shelter, and showers.
